Nutrition for depression with so and so...
Historically, depression has been viewed through the lens of serotonin function. Recently, other phenotypic presentations have emerged. The inflammatory phenotype of depression describes a condition responsive to nutrition intervention. Emerging evidence suggests that dietary counseling can be effective in reducing depressive symptoms. This presentation describes the potential mechanisms.
Educational Learning Objectives
1. Attendees will be able to identify 2 different phenotypes of depression.
2. Attendees will list 3 pathways linking the gut to the brain
3. Attendees will be able to identify 3 supplements that have promise for improving depressive symptoms.
BIO:
David became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in 2013 and founded Nutrition in Recovery, a group practice of RDNs specializing in treating eating and substance use disorders. He earned his Ph.D. in Public Health with a minor in Health Psychology from UCLA by investigating links between adverse childhood experiences and mental health outcomes among socially disadvantaged men. Dr. Wiss can be your nutrition and health consultant, functional medicine practitioner, recovery coach, or provide psychoeducation related to his expertise.
